Community Spotlight: YourEnigma

On October 17, 2011, YouTube user YourEnigma posted a video titled
Pony Piano - Twilight Sparkle's Mind is a Curious Place.

He had this to say about it:
"Ponies, man.....they do things to you."

Over the next couple of months, he posted several more videos, mostly piano and orchestral remixes of music from the show.

On January 6, 2012, YourEnigma posted
Old Hat, New Manehattan,
a jazz song that he called,
"a musical anthem to the most underrated city in Equestria."

Following that departure from his typical style, YourEnigma began to experiment with different melodies and styles within his typical classical mixes, combining motifs from the show with his original compositions, and generally using non-traditional elements in his songs.

On April 1, 2012 YourEnigma told his fans
"I'm finished with ponies forever,"

saying
"Everything will now be about Kirby as Pinkie Pie."

"Every piece. Kirby as Pinkie Pie. All videos. Kirby as Pinkie Pie."

...but of course, April Fool's!
He soon returned with more jazz...

...and classical...

...but it soon became apparent that he was not content to simply follow expectations.
His next several songs dealt with everything from tribal traditions...

...to high-end fashion shows...

...to, in July and August of 2012, mash-ups of classical, jazz, and electronica.

This new approach quickly became YourEnigma's signature style...

...and remains what he is best known for,
though he continued to dabble in his more traditional styles.

Over the next year, YourEnigma made several songs that caught attention,
most notably the further additions to the Tavi and Scratch series...

...including my personal favorite, The Things We Do for Wub...

...and My Roomate is a Bassist,
which remains his most popular video to date.

Of course, given it's popularity,
a remix of Eurobeat Brony's Discord was inevitable.

Between late December 2013 and March 2014, YourEnigma was mostly absent from YouTube, but he was certainly not idle during that time. On March 12, he returned in glorious form with On Hold, a collaboration with the incredible Rhyme Flow, and just one of the track from the album he released on Bandcamp

While his releases slowed over the months that followed, YourEnigma kept his fans happy with multiple convention appearances, and releases of the tracks on the album to YouTube, along with a handful of other remixes.

Sorry.

Though he hasn't been particularly active in the last few months,
releasing only a couple...

...of remixes...

...and a collaboration with Sprocket...

 ...YourEnigma remains an excellent musician,
and is one of the bronies that I will continue to watch with excitement.

With his birthday coming up later in June, will you please join me in saying:

Happy Birthday, Enigma.

God bless.
