Impressions: Bioshock Infinite Burial at Sea

I've finished Bioshock Infinite: Burial at Sea and I have some thoughts. Some of these are apparently the same as everyone else.

Spoilers for Bioshock, Bioshock Infinite, and Burial at Sea episodes 1 and 2.

  • What caused Songbird to crash into Elizabeth's tower?
  • Is there really a man inside Songbird? If the head in Fink's lab is active, why would this be necessary? Is Songbird, as many have speculated, a version of Booker?
  • Was this the Luteces' endgame? Were they just out to destroy Comstock/help Elizabeth, or do they have longer term intentions? Are they going to become mortal again, like Elizabeth?
  • Why were the Luteces leaving voxophones? Who were they leaving them for? Was it just habit, from their time as scientists?
  • If Elizabeth was able to return to Columbia during the original timeline of Infinite, does that mean Comstock/Booker isn't really wiped from existence? Does this override Infinite's original ending? Does it override the stinger? Or is that Columbia one of the few that still apparently exist?
  • Will we see more of Sally? The last time we chronologically see her is in the Fact from Myth trailer, that show her living in upstate New York in the 80s.
  • Will future Bioshock games tie back into Infinite? Will they retain the "always a man, always a lighthouse, always a city" conceit?
  • I was reminded of how ruthless both Atlas/Fontaine and Ryan were, which is something I didn't really feel in the first game. Ryan always struck me as more of a victim, so this was a good reminder of his position in both Rapture, and in the fiction of Bioshock.
  • The exact timeline of Bioshock had always escaped me, and this DLC did a good job of bringing everything together.
  • What happened to the version of Booker whose Anna died? Did he drink himself to death, or did the Luteces help him as well?
  • Finally (and this actually has nothing to do with anything), will any of the Bioshock games be re-released on Xbox One or Playstation 4? Will they be backwards compatible on Xbox One?

Sorry that things have slowed down recently. I'm trying some new stuff, and not all of it has been working out. That said, I should have a Tomb Raider post for Friday, and some more chapters of fanfiction after that.

God bless.
